Sagano Romantic Train

Sagano Romantic Train (嵯峨野観光鉄道) is a sightseeing train runs on a scenic railway in Arashiyama. It’s extremely popular in autumn so it’s best to buy the tickets beforehand at any major JR West ticket office. Plus early bird gets to choose your carriage and seats too!
The train ticket costs 600Y for a single journey, departs from Torokko Saga and ends at Torokko Kameoka (or vice versa), takes about 20 minutes. Definitely not a cheap ride but the scenery may be very rewarding especially during the peak season of autumn foliage. Like mid November or so.
There was a captain who did some introductions on the sceneries through out the journey. To my surprised, he sang too – he solo-ed a full song during my return ride to Torokko Saga. Interesting chap!
It was quite a nice ride with lovely weather and I dig the wooden interior of the train. Recommended for those who has a little extra budget to spare. :)
How To Get There
- Take JR train from Kyoto station to Saga-Arashiyama station (嵯峨嵐山駅)
- Torokko Saga is right beside the station
