Founded in 1940, Inoda Coffee is one of the oldest and probably the most famous coffee chains in Kyoto. Hopped into this place and placed an order for a French toast set (920Y) after visiting Kiyomizudera (清水寺) in empty stomach. Hungry! Good thing that they have quite a nice atmosphere so I could spend some time admiring the vintage Western style interior and the collection of tea sets while waiting for my food.
No comment about the coffee (or tea, honestly I couldn’t recall by now) but I’m quite sure the French toast is probably the best French toast I have ever had. Super fine sugar sprinkled evenly on top of the toast, while the buttered toast itself is slightly crispy on the outside yet very soft and fluffy inside – just perfect! Think I could forgive the price tag for this once.
How To Get There
- Coming out from Kiyomizudera (清水寺), it’s somewhere at Sannenzaka (三年坂)
- There’s a few branches of Inoda Coffee in Kyoto as well, this one that I went is closest to Kiyomizudera
