Fall Here and You’ll Die in 3 Years Time

Location: Higashiyama area, Kyoto

Sannenzaka (三年坂), according to here, is a pedestrian road consists of a series of stone pavements and steps lined on both sides with traditional Kyoto-style houses of merchants and souvenir shops in the sukiya style. The road corresponds to the approach to the Koyasu Kannon (子安観音) to which people pray for easy delivery in childbirth. The road is also called Sanneizaka (産寧坂) where sannei means easy deliveries.

What I heard was if you fall down here at Sannenzaka (which literally means three-year-hill), you’ll die in three years time. Well, true or not, it’s still a very lovely slope to walk on! ;)

How To Get There

  • Coming out from Kiyomizudera (清水寺), you’ll see Sannenzaka slope
