Two-year-hill, or Ninenzaka (二年坂 or 二寧坂), is another beautiful slope after Sannenzaka, but I don’t think there’s a “fall here and you’ll die in two years” kind of story here. Anyway, there’s only one thing I want to show in this photo: that cafe behind this Ninenzaka signboard – Cafe Garakuta (我楽苦多).
我楽苦多 is the title of a blog which I’ve been following since many years ago and the blogger did mention that it’s inspired by the name of this place when he came to Kyoto – he thought the play of words is interesting. Well, he has stopped updating that blog for quite some time and probably will never do again. Doesn’t really matter, because I have just watched him performing on stage last weekend. ;)
I didn’t visit this cafe as the shop that he recommended is right opposite here, the Kasagi-Ya. Red bean soup time!
How To Get There
- Coming out from Kiyomizudera (清水寺), you’ll see Sannenzaka slope
- There’s a turning to Ninenzaka slope after Sannenzaka
