Arashiyama Bamboo Groves

Posted on 3 December 2011

Travel date: 29 October 2010
Location: Saga-Arashiyama area, Kyoto

Besides Sagano Romantic Train, these bamboo groves was another reason why I came to Arashiyama. The actual walking path is shorter than I thought (wish it’s much longer than perhaps a hundred metres!), but of course it was still a very pleasant walk in the forest surrounded by tall bamboo trees – given there’s not too many people around.

An ojiisan came over and showed me the best angle to take a bamboo tree (see second photo) and only to leave me alone after making sure that I’m taking all my bamboo photos with that angle.. funny. ^^”

How To Get There

  • Take JR train from Kyoto station to Saga-Arashiyama station (嵯峨嵐山駅)
  • Spend at least half day to explore the Saga & Arashiyama area, on foot or rent a bicycle!
